Structural and Functional Studies of Large Macromolecular Assemblies

Especially motivated students and postdoctoral candidates or laboratory assistants are encouraged to apply in writing to Nenad Ban at the address below. We are studying the process of protein synthesis using a combination of methods including crystallography and electron microscopy. Among the molecules we are investigating are various protein RNA complexes involved in translation - alone and in complex with the ribosome. Furthermore, we are interested in the function and architecture of multi enzyme complexes in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. We are part of the National Center for Excellence in structural biology, which supports research on macromolecular assemblies and membrane proteins. Our institute provides a challenging and stimulating atmosphere combining experience accumulated working on difficult problems in structural biology with excellent infrastructure (See: www.mol.biol.ethz.ch). Furthermore, measurement of the crystallographic data is conducted at the newly built Swiss Light Source synchrotron at one of the best protein crystallography beamlines in the world.
