We engage in biological research on the molecular level using methods such as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and X-ray diffraction to solve the spatial structure of biological molecules at atomic resolution. We also study the mechanism of protein folding and the assembly of large biomolecules.
Ten research groups are currently working in the institute:
Group Allain
Group Ban
Group Glockshuber
Group Locher
Group Pilhofer
Group Richmond
Group Weber-Ban
Group Wider
Group Wüthrich

Prof. Kurt Wüthrich, a long standing researcher at the institute, was awarded with the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2002 for the development of NMR methods for the determination of protein structures in solution.
